An copper plate engraved map. Size: 13 inches X 19 inches Map Type: City This is a superior copy with strong engraving lines. Some age darkening along the center line crease. This interesting view of Cairo, Egypt was created 200 years before the invasion of Egypt by Napoleon. Taken from Civitates Orbis Terrarum, the first complete set of of birds eye "town views" assembled into a 6 volume atlas. In the foreground, a group of Egyptians is pictured, some on horseback, others appear to be picking dates. The Sphinx, pyramids, and a bridge for crossing the Nile at times of rising water levels can be seen.
