This is an excellent copy, with strong engraving and vivid colors.

This detailed map is based on the landmark map by Guillaume Delisle published in 1718. It focuses on the Mississippi River Valley including its tributaries. It also shows many details along the Gulf Coast region, where the Mission de los Teyas is noted in present-day Texas. The routes of several explorers including Spains Hernando De Soto and others are traced in the map.

The map has detailed vignettes of a buffalo and Native Americans. Depicted in the title cartouche is Father Louis Hennepin who explored the Great Lakes region and claimed to have reached the mouth of the Mississippi.
