Scale: 1 inch = 30 miles Map Type: Wall This is a superb copy, with brilliant color by county. Restored. Framed in Shadowbox Map is copyrighted 1833, and dated in the cartouche 1844. The elaborate cartouche contains an eagle with an American shield. This large and extremely detailed map displays the United States from Maine to Louisiana and includes the territories of the upper mid-west including a large Michigan territory. Many topographical features are shown including mountains, rivers, streams and creeks along with geographical features such as towns, roads, and canals. Indian tribes are named and their range is shown throughout the western frontier.
Inset maps: 'Vicinity of Albany,' Vicinity of the Falls of Niagara,' 'Vicinity of New Orleans,' 'Vicinity of Boston,' 'Vicinity of New York,' 'Vicinity of Philadelphia,' 'Vicinity of Baltimore and Washington,' and 'Vicinity of Charleston' all which have hand colored border outlines and full color wash.
Large inset map on lower right: " A General Map Of The United States with the contiguous British & Mexican Possessions. ". Displays the continent from mid-Mexico to southern Canada. Of particular note in this inset is the Republic of Texas in its original configuration with the southern border at the Nueces River.
