This is an excellent example, very clean with light age toning throughout.

This large detailed map of Texas has the intricate border that Colton was well known for. It is colored by counties.

Created just before the civil war, this map is based upon Jacob De Cordova's map assembled from Texas Land Office records. It illustrates many early roads, towns, forts, proposed rail lines, and other important places. Most of the development is in the eastern part of the state. A number of new counties were created in 1858 on the western Texas frontier. Noted on the map is "El Llano Estacado" or The Staked Plain. Also noted as "Elevated Table Land without Wood or Water" in direct conflict with John Arrowsmith's observations of this area of the state. Other features illustrated springs, passes, trading posts, and man forts.
