This is an excellent copy, with hand colored wash. Very slightly faded. Water stain in lower right margin not affecting image.

This map was taken from Johnson's New Illustrated (Steel Plate) Family Atlas, With Descriptions, Geographical, Statistical, And Historical.

Counties are illustrated in different colors. Illustrates cities and towns with county seats in bold type. Railroads are depicted traversing the State and many rivers including the Colorado are shown flowing to the coast. A decorative border frame makes this map very attractive.

Originally created just before the civil war, this map is based upon Jacob De Cordova's map assembled from Texas Land Office records. Noted on the map is "El Llano Estacado" or The Staked Plain. Also noted as "Elevated Table Land without Wood or Water" in direct conflict with John Arrowsmith's observations of this area of the state. Other features illustrated springs, passes, trading posts, and man forts.
