An engraved map, with hand colored wash

Size: 10-3/4 inches X 13-1/2 inches

Map Type: Book

This is a superior copy, with vivid colors. A few small splits along the crease lines, but very fine.

This map appears in Mary Austin Holley's book Texas and is one of the outstanding features of this classic Texana. It is quite rare, although it has appeared in several forms beginning as a separate map in 1833, as well as in the book A Visit to Texas (Streeter 1155). Each time it has appeared with revisions which reflect the changing face of Texas. Both of the books mentioned above may be reviewed on this website by visiting our book section.

The map shows brilliantly colored land grants and other additions including "Herds of Buffalo"; new towns and settlements; new land grant areas; Choctaw, Creek, and Cherokee tribes located in Arkansas Territory and Comanches in West Texas.
