Roberts02 ~ Head of the Great Sphinx, Pyramids of Giza ~ Hand colored lithograph ~ The Great Sphinx is believed to be the most immense stone sculpture in the round ever made by man. This view is almost identical to one made by the French Savants for Description de L'Egypte in Volume V Plate 12, although Roberts illustration was made independently. The difference between the two are markedly different, Roberts impression is much more artistic in expression than the engineering illustration made by the French.
